2025 Coastal Dance Festival: Signature Evening Theatre Performance

Dancers of Damelahamid, in partnership with the the Anvil Centre and the Museum of Anthropology at UBC, present the 18th annual Coastal Dance Festival. The Festival is a celebration of the stories, songs and dances of the Indigenous peoples of the Northwest Coast with guest national and international artists. The Festival brings Indigenous artists together to share and support one another in a celebration of lived artistic practices. Guest national and international artists have connected the festival with a global community of Indigenous dance.

Signature evening performance on March 8 in the Anvil Centre’s theatre will feature Git Hoan, Yisya̱’winux̱w, and a special excerpt from Dancers of Damelahamid’s Raven Mother, showcasing a striking raven transformation mask that opens to reflect five generations of women in their family who are part of the cultural revitalization and innovation in the dance form. The festival takes place on the traditional, ancestral, and unceded territories of the qəyqəyt (Qayqayt), xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), q̓ʷainƛ̓ən (Kwantlen), q̓ic̓əy̓ (Katzie) people.
